I think Sam is an awesome hobbit-he really helps Frodo on their "mission....quest......thing"(sorry, I couldn't resist!). It is SO true that "Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam" (another quote from the movies). Sam is very good-natured, and not even the Ring corrupts him too much. He made a lot of sacrifices just to help Frodo, and in turn he hellped Middle Earth-because if Frodo didn't make it, Sauron would have found the Ring again and covered all with a second darkness. For example, one of the commitments and horrors he had to face was when he had to find clothes for Frodo after he found him in Cirith Ungol. Can you imagine having to take the pants (made out of who knows what) off of dead orcs (well, you think they're all dead) while their heads, limbs, blood, guts, and other gooey stuff is all around? Sam also faced other dangers for Frodo too-just the fact that he went into Mordor is one. Overall, Samwise Gamgee was a crucial character in the destruction of the ring and is a great guy. His unquenchable hope always shines through-which is a wonderful trait for anybody.

That is so true. If it wasn't for Samwise Gamgee, Frodo wouldn't have made it as far as he did. Frodo would have gone mad if Sam wasn't there helping him through everything. so your statement hold true to every word, Luinmir, he is, without a doudt, the crucial character for the destruction of the ring.
